Wayne reflects on our latest growth in membership figures and looks at celebrating Volunteers’ Week…

Bigger and better

Results from our census have confirmed it – we can now officially celebrate 10 years of consecutive growth in youth membership. Our total youth membership now sits at an impressive 446,432 and counting.

We have more teenagers involved in the Scouting adventure than last year and we’re pleased to say that we have even more girls on-board than we did in 2014.

Our volunteers

Of course, none of this could have been achieved without the work of our amazing volunteers. This week is Volunteers’ Week and the perfect opportunity to take a moment or two to shine the spotlight on those who make Scouting happen day in, day out.

We have volunteers from all walks of life, with all kinds of jobs and with all kinds of frantic schedules to juggle while somehow finding the time to help deliver Scouting to young people. That’s just amazing and it’s great that weeks like this help us take time to celebrate what we do best.

So if you are a line manager, administrator, section leader or parent who comes along to help out at meetings, I say ‘thank you’ from the bottom of my heart. Your passion changes young people’s lives and those communities in which they live and work.

Making an impact

Volunteering and helping others is in Scouting’s DNA, and that’s why we’re really proud to be part of #iwill, a project to get even more young people making a positive impact in their communities. Our own A Million Hands campaign will ensure that we, with the help of our young people, will make positive changes across the UK.

Going forward, your efforts will inevitably enable more young people to experience Scouting, which is an amazing thing for our local national and international communities. No one should underestimate the value of like-minded people working together and achieving great things as volunteers.

Thank you.
