BLOG 24.03.16
During a busy week, Wayne looks at the steps being taken to ensure that projects run as smoothly as possible, in order to best support the Movement.

In my March Scouting Magazine comment I highlighted some steps being taken to learn lessons from recent project reviews, including Compass, around managing projects at HQ.

Making things happen more effectively

I’m pleased to say that the Trustee Board on Saturday approved our proposed new approach to project management, designed to ensure that each project, big or small, has appropriate levels of governance and leadership to ensure that projects across our often complex matrix of teams and people operate effectively, on schedule and on budget etc.

Remaining focussed

In approving our projects, work plan and budget for the next 12 months, the Board remain focussed on our strategic priorities, especially embedding our strategic objectives within the youth Programme and supporting sections and unit leaders to deliver it.

With Compass now restored for adult membership services, our attentions more fully turn to the most effective ways of supporting youth data within the Movement as well as continually reviewing the adult services.  We know that we still have a long way to go in making it more effective.

Like most of the charity sector, our fundraising income was significantly reduced last year, requiring us to pull our belts in wherever possible, and especially without increasing the membership fee which is maintained for yet another year.

A packed agenda

In other news, the Board also received updates on the Youth Shaped strategy, census progress, charity governance, safeguarding etc as well as training sessions on current key topics.

Thanking friends and family

The day at Gilwell on Friday was another opportunity to catch up with a variety of colleagues and individual projects, as well as having the honour of presenting the St George’s Day Awards to Headquarters volunteers and staff. As always, on such occasions, the chance to warmly thank the family members and supporters who accompany the recipients for the role they each play in allowing us to Scout!
