Last week saw Wayne attend the now familiar variety of meetings and events.

A Million Hands

On Monday, I had my first meeting of the Prime Minister’s Champion’s Group on Dementia, which is chaired by Angela Rippon and the CEO of the Alzheimers Society.  Our involvement is very much driven by our A Million Hands partnership with the Alzheimers Society.

Within Scouting, it is easy to overlook the true impact that we have, so one of the side benefits of our involvement is to hear very regular comments from people on how excited they are to hear of the increasing examples of successful projects.

For ideas on how to get the best from our partners do check out the resource packs on the website and let us know what you are doing.

Working with others

I also caught up with the Head of the Army’s Cadet Services to share experiences, identify opportunities to work together and other topics of mutual interest.  I have a similar meeting with the head of the Air Cadets in a couple of weeks.

Making best use of funds

We are about to start a review of the Development Grants Fund, primarily to determine the role that such funds have in supporting the growth and development of local Scouting.  It was therefore a particularly opportune time to catch up with Richard Simmons, Chair of the Development Grants Board, to discuss current projects and ideas to be considered when the Operations Committee establishes the review group when it meets on 23 April.

Great teamwork

The weekend saw my penultimate UKCC team meeting, although there was certainly no let-up in the key topics and issues we considered which was as varied as vetting compliance, Network Reboot, working together and also deciding on our Duke of Edinburgh Diamond Challenge.   More of that a little later…
