Chief Commissioner's Blog | A sign of a good community

BLOG 13.05.16

Scouting works best when in partnership with its local community as Wayne re-affirmed on a recent visit to Staffordshire.

A sign of a good community

Poleworth (Abbey) Scout Group was the latest new Scout and community centre I’ve been lucky enough to open as UKCC. It typified many of the attributes of a successful Group; it has a small number of individuals with a vision and commitment to make it happen and to fundraise and a supportive community with many tradesmen as well as parents and families willing to give their time and resources to bring these dreams to fruition.

The result is that the community now has a fantastic facility, designed to provide practical facilities rather than just a 'trophy building', in a prime location.  Much more importantly, it’s continued to be a growing Group providing great opportunities for increasing numbers of young people.

The Group also have a supportive District who were able to lend them funds to complete the work.

Checking up on training

Whilst in Staffordshire, I took the opportunity to drop in on an adult training course to listen to the participants and answer their questions on a wide range of topics.
