Scouts Speak Up at party conferences

We know that nearly half a million Scouts across the UK are changing peoples lives day in, day out - but do decision makers?

Our pledge to empower young people to be active citizens who can contribute to social change means that not only are we helping them shape the world, but also proving that Scouting is relevant to contemporary society.

Speaking out

Now in its sixth year, Scouts Speak Up gives Explorers, Young Leaders, Network members and their leaders the opportunity to meet with MPs and councillors from across the country, during the party conference season.

Last year’s successful events were attended by more than 300 people and this year we want to give even more young people the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter to them with key decision-makers.

‘As a young person it is really inspiring to know that a decision-maker wants to hear my opinion,' says Matt, an Explorer Scout. 'I really enjoyed meeting the MPs, it gave me a chance to get straight to my point but in a really chilled atmosphere. This year I hope to bring up the issue of university places because I think that’s something that’s really going to affect me and my Explorer Unit.’

Get involved

Details for this year's events are:

If you want to come along, please register here or if you have any questions then contact our Public Affairs and Campaigns team on citizen@scouts.org.uk or 020 8433 7115.

There will be refreshments and a light buffet. A travel bursary of up to £30 per person is also available for each event. The events are informal, so you do not need your uniform but do remember to bring your scarf/necker.
