On 1 August 1907 Robert Baden-Powell gathered 20 children on Brownsea Island for what was to be to the first ever Scout camp. Baden-Powell took care to ensure that all the activities could be enjoyed by young people from the most privileged to the poorest of backgrounds. The children were from a cross section of society, something that was quite revolutionary at a time when Britain was more rigidly divided by class than it is today. On the 9 August they returned home, exhausted and exhilarated. Despite their cultural and social differences, they had lived, worked and played together.

Your donation can make a difference to the lives
of children and young people across the UK.

Today the original objectives of the charity, The Scout Association, still prevail. Cost is kept low so that boys and girls, regardless of their background, can gain access to the opportunities that Scouting offers. Scouting starts from just £2 a week. Your gift will help to develop the adventurous activities on offer to over 400,000 youth members.

With your help the benefits of Scouting can be offered to even more young people including the 36,000 currently on waiting lists.
