Nesta is the UK’s innovation foundation. We are an
independent charity with a mission to help people and organisations bring great
ideas to life.
After consultation and testing with The Scout Association, volunteers, youth members and technology experts we have developed the resource packs to help you achieve the Digital Maker Staged Activity Badge, stages 1 &2.
Digital technologies touch every aspect of life and business – but relatively few people can create them; most people just use them.
We want to mobilise a generation of young people with the confidence and know-how to make new technology – whether websites, apps, hardware, games, animations or brand new innovations using technology to solve problems. We call this 'digital making': learning about how digital technologies work, through making things with them. We believe that digital making won't just benefit young people themselves, but society and the economy too.
We know young people are interested in it - in early 2015 we surveyed young people from across the UK and 82% were interested in digital making. 89% of parents thought it was a worthwhile activity for their children too and the best thing is that you don't need to be a "techhie" to enjoy digital making. The activity packs are designed for complete beginners to get involved (adults as well as young people!).
