Design the Scouting Memorial

SMP BadgeYou could make Scouting history by designing a permanent memorial to remember all who have given service to Scouting and honour members who have suffered through conflict.

The Scouting Memorial project, set up by a team of volunteers from Birmingham Scout County, is a fundraising drive to create a Scouting Memorial in Staffordshire at the National Memorial Arboretum, the UK’s year-round centre of remembrance.

Submit your design

As well as supporting the project through donations, you could now be a vital part of it. The project organisers are inviting submissions for a unique memorial design that will visibly evoke Scouting as well as being a celebration of service and a place of reflection.

The project team are passionate that the memorial should be a truly inclusive project for everyone to be proud of, giving a sense of collective ownership. As such, the design competition is open to anyone involved in or affiliated to Scouting. This includes all youth and adult members, as well as supporters of the project, parents and ex-members of the Movement.

Why not encourage young people in your sections to create a design for the memorial? This would make an ideal activity for Remembrance Day on 11 November. Details, including a design brief and how to enter, can be found at tsmp.org.uk/design.htm. The competition closes on 6th December.

Fundraising update

Fundraising for the memorial continues to make great progress. Thanks to enthusiastic support from members across the UK, around £56,000 has been raised so far, largely from donations received through cloth and pin memorial badge sales. All members of The Scout Association can wear the badges, and an incredible 55,000 have been sold already.

The total raised to date represents over two-thirds of the fundraising target of £80,000, which will go towards the memorial’s design, building and maintenance costs.

If you haven’t yet given your support, order badges and find out more about the project at tsmp.org.uk.
