New Year Honours

Inspiring members of UK Scouting are recognised in the New Year Honours…

Inspiring volunteers

Members of UK Scouting have had their services to young people and the Scout Movement recognised in the New Year Honours.

David Bull was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of his services as a volunteer for over 50 years. During this time, David has played a significant role in developing Scouting in Cheshire, the UK and Europe, especially within emerging eastern European communities. David’s roles have included establishing Venture Scouting within his District and County, International Commissioner, District Commissioner and presently Area Secretary, British Scouting Overseas.

Jill Gloster also received an OBE in recognition of her service to Scouting and young people in Wales. After a variety of local and national roles, Jill completed a very successful term as Area Commissioner for Snowdonia and Anglesey and became Chief Commissioner of Wales in September 2006, a role she continued until retiring in 2013. Growth of ScoutsWales has continued in its membership for six successive years, the highest percentage in the UK in 2010: a clear reflection of Jill's leadership of her team and the image within Wales throughout her tenure.

Commitment and dedication

For outstanding service in their local communities, Ann Eden, Hazel Geach, David Gerrard, David McKenzie and Ronald Pilkington were appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Leslie Paterson and Leslie Shiels were appointed  Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM).

Wayne Bulpitt, UK Chief Commissioner comments: ‘We are delighted that the commitment and dedication of all our volunteers is appreciated so highly by the community and particularly pleased that the exceptional services of these members has been recognised in the New Year Honours.’
