One-day media courses open to all adults in Scouting
08/02/2012
The UKHQ media team will be hosting a number of one-day media courses across the UK in 2012 and 2013.
The courses are open to any adult in Scouting who has an interest in the media and external communications.
The training will help you gain a better understanding of the value of the Scout brand. It will sharpen your ability to spot and craft a fresh media story and be able to pitch it to journalists.
The workshops are very practical and will equip you with the skills you need to promote scouting to your local media outlets.
Media courses
Saturday 16 June 2012: South/South West regions – Taunton Tangier Scout Headquarters
Saturday 14 July 2012: London/East of England regions – Cambridge (location TBC)
Saturday 29 September 2012: Midlands regions – Leicester County Scout Headquarters
Saturday 19 January 2013: North East/North West regions – Linnet Clough, Stockport
The workshops will run between 10am and 4.30pm.

By rusty (11/02/2012 06:39) Lookout the boys are on the road again, if you want to have a fun day and learn more about the power that Scoutings Everyday Adventure has in the local media book a place
By Will Redfearn (11/02/2012 08:37) Are you aware of the BBCs citizen journalists project.
By Angela (11/02/2012 11:20) These courses do not allow people from North Yorkshire, Northumberland and up over to have a choice to attend these without a journey in excess of 2 - 3 hours, plus the need possibly for an overnight stay. I am interested in attending but not prepare to travel to Leicester or Stockport. Please remember scouting issues need to involve the parts of UK more equally so we all get to experience the courses on offer.
By Helen (11/02/2012 12:59) Since when has Stockport been an easily accessed destination for most of Northern England?
By Emma (11/02/2012 13:40) Yes, one in Scotland would be much appreciated!
By Michael Carchrie Campbell (11/02/2012 14:11) As a Scouter from Northern Ireland, with more than a passing interest in communicating with the media in my day job, I would be interested in ensuring that all the countries of the UK are having days like this. If the UKHQ media team needs a hand, please get in contact with me. You can do this via michael@mjpbcc.co.uk
By Patrick Duggan. (12/02/2012 10:33) There do not appear to be any courses in South Yorkshire. Have you forgotten us?
By Mike Lowis (12/02/2012 11:30) I agree with Graham, I live in West Sussex, am i expected to travel to Taunton or Cambridge, 3-5 hours before i start the Course, Think about locations even at County level or 2 counties next to each other.
By Peter Couzens (12/02/2012 14:58) Why is the South East region omitted from the media course
By Pauline (12/02/2012 22:11) Well said Graham. I was ready to sign up for this course as I think it will be really interesting. However, the "nearest" one to me is about 200miles away.
By Gary (13/02/2012 08:22) Do we have to attend the course specific to the region we are in? For example I am based in the North East Region, but it would be almost as near for me to go to Cambridge or Leicester and then we could also attend this year, rather than waiting until next year.
By yvonne (13/02/2012 09:31) Can the organizers of this course consider doing one in the South East and preferably on a day besides Saturday?
By allan forster (13/02/2012 21:45) what a fantastic course well done great idea....its to far away tho stockport is the north west..please the north east give us a one, i'll give u a free venue, we simply cannot afford 3 hours travel to get to stockport !
By David (15/02/2012 14:29) Again?!
