Ice climbing


Description
Ice climbing is a winter activity involving climbing up features covered in ice using crampons and ice axes. Ice Climbing can also be an indoor sport in some specialist centres

Additional Information
Ice Factor and Vertical Chill have freezer rooms with real ice walls. Some Scout campsites and outdoor centres have artificial 'ice' made from plastic foam.


How to run/provide ice climbing

There are 3 ways of running Ice climbing in Scouting. These are:

  1. Scout-led activity - running ice climbing yourself or using someone else in Scouting

  2. Externally-led activity - running ice climbing using an external provider

  3. Activity for adult groups - running ice climbing for a group entirely of adults
