Peer Leadership in Scouts

In Scouts peer leaders are called Patrol Leaders, Assistant Patrol Leaders and some Troops have Senior Patrol Leaders too.

Support Resources

A guide to peer leadership in Scouts is available for leaders to give them some top tips on using Patrol Leaders in the Patrol, it can be found here.

From Monday 6th March 2017, a top tips leaflet will be available for Patrol Leaders to help them learn the ropes and to congratulate them on becoming a Patrol Leader. These will be sent directly to leaders with their Patrol Leader leadership stripes packs from Badge Secretaries.

The resource- Taking the Lead is designed to help adult leaders develop leadership skills with young people in the Scout Troop. It will help you promote the active participation of your Scouts in the day-to-day running of your Troop. You can find it here.

Enabling Patrol Leaders in Scouts to get involved with planning and evaluating their Programme is really valuable. The YouShape resource contains some ideas that Patrol Leaders could use to get feedback from other Scouts. Take a look here.

Have a question about peer leadership in Scouts? These FAQs have been developed to answer the most common queries.

1. How do I order the guidance leaflets for Patrol Leaders?

The leaflets will be sent directly to Badge Secretaries when they order the Patrol Leader stripes in packs of 10 after Monday 6th March 2017.

2. I have lots of stocks of Patrol Leader stripes, so won't need to order them for a while. How can I get just the leaflets?

Badge Secretaries will be able to order just the individual leaflets and specify how many they need for a limited amount of time. This allows the guidance leaflets to be given to new Patrol Leaders as they take on their role.
