Sub-aqua is the activity of underwater swimming with breathing, aided by the use of an air tank. The feeling of weightlessness and underwater breathing is both exhilarating and totally addictive.

It can be done in most watery environments, from swimming pools to the Great Barrier Reef and all that goes between.

Sub-aqua promotes non verbal communication and can increase self confidence whilst allowing young people to try something new and exciting.

How to run/provide sub-aqua

There are 3 ways of running Sub-aqua in Scouting. These are:

  1. Scout-led activity - running sub-aqua yourself or using someone else in Scouting

  2. Externally-led activity - running sub-aqua using an external provider

  3. Activity for adult groups - running sub-aqua for a group entirely of adults
