Mine Exploration


Description
Mine Exploration is similar to caving but exploring man made rather than natural underground passages. The man made element of this environment provides different challenges, hazards and surroundings to those found in a caving environment.

Who is it suitable for?
Mine explorations is suitable for Scouts and Explorers.

Additional Information
All mining must take place in mines which have current inspection reports, copies of these can be requested from activities@scouts.org.uk.

How to run/provide mine exploration

There are 3 ways of running Mine Exploration in Scouting. These are:

  1. Scout-led activity - running mine exploration yourself or using someone else in Scouting

  2. Externally-led activity - running mine exploration using an external provider

  3. Activity for adult groups - running mine exploration for a group entirely of adults
