Chief Commissioner's Blog | Vital partnerships

A frantic but inspiring week for Wayne highlights some of Scouting’s great partnerships...

A busy week

For Trustees Week recently we hosted workshops for County/Regional/Area Executive Officers (Trustees) as part of our commitment to increase support for the 30,000 Trustees we have across the UK. In the same week, I also participated in the NCVO trustee conference and enjoyed a day organised by Barclays for leaders of national charities.

In terms of Scouting at a local level, I also recently saw first-hand the benefit a successful partnership between Chair and GSL/Commissioner can have as I joined a meeting of Group Chairs in Guernsey. The partnership resulted in the very successful recruitment of a group of people with varied experience; a significant beneficial impact is already being felt.

Effective support

As I have written before, the complexity of our Movement highlights the importance of partnerships and none more so than that between the Chair and GSL/DC etc and the Executive Committee who support local Scouting; it ensures we have effective support and resources as well as a myriad of other potential benefits/influence within our local communities.

Back to our workshops

In addition to the benefits of sharing our Scouting for All strategy and particularly how it relates to executive officers, members also participated in various discussion groups, highlighted the support available for risk management and executive officer training as well as developing a forum for identifying further support.

On Monday evening I was also lucky enough to represent Scouting at the Rolls Royce Science Awards where we also recognised the successful partnership we have in developing awareness of science through programme resources for the Cub Section (did you know that this is our second most popular badge resource?).

In other news

In a busy week of meetings and discussions, I also hosted a discussion group looking at how we can ensure Scouting better reflects our local communities. I also had dinner with the County Commissioners of the South West England meeting and several other catch-up meetings and conversations with colleagues.
