This week, Wayne enjoyed a whole host of birthday celebrations with the RAF Air Cadets!

Celebrating with the RAF Air Cadets

Julie and I were lucky enough to join the Royal Air Force Air Cadets at RAF Cranwell on Saturday, as part of the celebrations for their 75th Anniversary.  Other guests included the Air Chief Marshall.  The occasion was the 2016 National Concert Band’s 21st Annual concert.  This year also represents the 75th anniversary of our own Air Scouts, so it was a great opportunity to discuss with them one or two joint activities this year, including a camp later in the year to mark the joint birthdays, all being well.

The concert band had been made up from Air Cadets from across the UK who had spent a week at RAF Cranfield training for the convert, supported by the band of the RAF College and others.  The young people were absolutely amazing and it was a great occasion to be celebrating so many birthdays!

Interestingly, the RAF Cadets Concert Band is similar to our very own National Scout & Guide Symphony Orchestra who celebrated their 40th anniversary last year.  This year, 108 Scouts and Guides aged 12-25 will camp for a week with professional conductors and tutors culminating in performances in prestigious venues in Birmingham and Stourbridge which are open to the public on Friday 29 July evening and lunchtime and evening on Saturday 30 July.  Please find out more by visiting their website or emailing manager Jill Bowman.

It’s not all parties

As well as the fun of birthday parties with the Air Cadets, I had spent two days Scouting at Gilwell and BP House in the preceding week with a wide variety of activities. One day focused around the budget and portfolio planning within the Association, while a day of meetings on Wednesday largely focussed on our latest Governance review, Nominations Committee where we considered the forthcoming search for Trustees for the September AGM and other 'catch-ups' as is typical with such gatherings.
