One hundred years of adventure

Youlbury Scout Activity Centre celebrates its centenary.

Youlbury Scout Activity Centre in Oxfordshire is one hundred years old, and there is even more reason to celebrate with the opening of a new accommodation lodge so even more people can enjoy everything Youlbury has to offer.

The single-storey building sleeps 36 people and includes a fully-fitted kitchen and large communal area.

In addition to the new accommodation block, extensive areas of decking have been created for outside activities, as well as new paths and car parking. UK Chief Commissioner, Wayne Bulpitt, was on hand to cut the ribbon and officially open the new area.

The next two years will see further accommodation built with supporting facilities such as a purpose-built toilet and ablution block.

Award-winning centre

The high-adrenaline fun will continue with over 20 on-site activities, from archery, climbing and Jacobs Ladder to environmental activities and team building. Youlbury is set to build on its strong history and success of getting more young people outdoors and delivering more adventurous activities to the community. The centre was recently awarded the 'Investors in Education' award by the Business Education Alliance.

Nick Parker, Assistant Director for National Centres at The Scout Association said, 'Adventure is at the heart of Scouting and having this great new accommodation block will give the opportunity for thousands more young people from schools, Scout Groups or other youth organisations to experience the adventures and activities on offer at Youlbury Scout Activity Centre.'
