UK Scouts help prepare new Prince for the outdoors

To celebrate the royal arrival Scouts have sent a suitably practical and outdoorsy gift to the happy couple: a baby carrier backpack. It will enable Scout volunteer HRH, The Duchess of Cambridge to include the baby Prince in her Scouting adventures.

‘This is amazing news. On behalf of the UK’s half a million Scouts, I send our massive congratulations and good wishes to HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’ says UK Scouting’s Chief Scout and father of three, Bear Grylls. ‘Enjoy this precious time as a family and much love from us all.’

Balancing volunteering and parenthood

During her pregnancy The Duchess, who helps out as an Occasional Helper at a Scout Group close to her home in north Wales, undertook adult volunteer training at Great Tower Scout Activity Centre on the shores of Lake Windermere and celebrated Scouts’ achievements at Windsor Castle.

Like thousands of UK Scouting’s other adult members, The Duchess will be juggling parenthood and the demands of looking after a child with volunteering for Scouting. Working mum, Heather Baker from Wigan, a volunteer manager says: ‘It’s rewarding and fun too – and I bring my daughter Amy along to Scout meetings when I can.’

Support our growing Movement

Every day, amazing adult volunteers like HRH give their time to support Scouting in the UK. However, as Scouting grows year on year and our waiting list to join swells to more than 35,000 young people; we desperately need even more adults to help us continue delivering everyday adventure.

Search for your nearest Group and find out how you can join the adventure.
