Romford Scouts walk for Paul

Scouts from Romford District have raised over £18,000 in memory of their former District Commissioner, Paul Leeper. Involved in Scouting for 47 of his 55 years, Paul passed away in August 2012 after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Scouts from his District have commemorated his memory with a sponsored hike that took in the Group HQs where he supported local Scouting. The money raised has been donated to Saint Francis Hospice in Romford, where Paul was treated for three weeks.

The walk took place on Saturday 6 July – an extremely hot day. 550 members took part in the hike, 250 walked 19 miles while the younger members followed shorter sections of the same route.

Julie Leeper, Group Scout Leader with 2nd Romford, said: 'This was Scouting as he loved to see it – everyone coming together to support a great cause, challenging themselves and having a great time. It was a fantastic experience to see the whole District brought together.'

You can donate at justgiving.com/walkforpaul and order a commemorative badge for £2 from facebook.com/WalkForPaul.
