Scouts Big Day Out in Salford

On Saturday Scouts took over Media City in Salford, Manchester to showcase the fun and adventure Scouting has to offer.

Visitors to the event got the chance to try a range of exciting activities, including climbing, abseiling, canoeing, BMXing and cartoon drawing.

The aim was to encourage adults to sign up as volunteers so more young people have the opportunity to enjoy Scouting. There are now 38,000 young people on the waiting list across the UK and over 1,100 in the Greater Manchester area alone.

Sheila Finch, a Scout Leader from Wigan, said: 'The Big Day Out is a great way to get the community involved and the young people really enjoyed it. I’ve spoken to adults who didn’t realise Scouts do things like this – they’re really interested and keen to get on board.'

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, attended the event and said: 'Scouting is a modern, dynamic youth organisation offering real opportunities and skills for young people to develop themselves and have fun at the same time. It’s the best youth organisation worldwide.'
