New Regional Commissioner appointments

Ian Newbery has been appointed to lead Scouting in the South East Region with the appointment as Regional Commissioner with effect from 1 February 2015.  Sue Harris has also been appointed to lead Scouting in the East Midlands Region with the appointment as Regional Commissioner. Start date in this role to be confirmed shortly. 

South East Regional Commissioner
Ian Newbery brings a wealth of experience, most recently in terms of volunteer line manager as the County Commissioner of Greater London South West where he oversaw sustained growth and the opening of a number of new Groups from diverse backgrounds. 
He joined Scouting as a Cub Scout at the age of 8 and continued through to Venture Scouts where he gained his Explorer Belt & Queens Scout Award in the early 80s.
He has a wide range of Scouting experience at all levels from Venture Scout Leader, Assistant County Commissioner, UK Technical Adviser for Nights Away, World Jamboree Unit Leader and World Jamboree UK Contingent Support Team member.
Ian works in the printing industry on the pre press side in a large commercial and book printers, where he has additional responsibilities for Health & Safety. At home he is father to 2 children who are both currently in the Scout Troop.

East Midlands Regional Commissioner
Sue Harris first began Scouting as a Venture Scout and achieved her Queen's Scout Award. Her first adult appointment was as a Cub Scout Leader in Romford, Greater London North East. She was also Assistant District Commissioner (Cub Scouts) in Romford for a number of years before moving back to Derbyshire in 2001. Since then she has held various appointments including Assistant District Commissioner (Beavers Scouts), Group Scout Leader and District Commissioner.  Her most recent role has been County Training Manager for Derbyshire.

Professionally Sue trained as a nurse and a midwife and currently works as a Healthcare Quality and Risk Specialist for a global certification company.
