New Commercial Director appointed at The Scout Association

Mark Hislop will join The Scout Association as its new Commercial Director in April 2015.

New role

Mark will be joining TSA from The Somerset House Trust, which he has helped establish as the biggest creative industry hub in London. Mark’s new role will see him form part of the Senior Leadership Team at TSA.

The appointment has been made in line with the 2014-2018 Strategic Plan at TSA, which will open UK Scouting to even more young people and increase the number of adult volunteers within the movement, as well as delivering even more positive impact to communities.

Mark will spearhead fundraising efforts at TSA, maximise the potential of existing commercial activities and develop the current commercial strategy.

The funds he and his team are able to raise will help the Movement deliver the broad range of exciting activities currently on offer to the 40,000 young people on waiting lists for local Scout groups across the UK.

Transforming lives

Mark will bring 28 years worth of experience to his new role, including roles at companies including Habitat, Marks & Spencer and Tesco. In his current role at the Somerset House Trust, Mark has played a significant role in securing its financial future.

Commenting on his appointment, Mark said: ‘I am delighted to be joining The Scout Association at such an exciting time for the Movement. UK Scouting plays a vital role transforming the lives of young people across the UK and I believe my experiences at Somerset House and within the retail industry will help The Scout Association to achieve its 2018 vision to make a real social impact on the communities and young people that it serves.’

Chief Executive of The Scout Association, Matt Hyde, said he was equally excited about the appointment: ‘I am delighted to welcome Mark onto the staff team today. He brings unique qualities and experience to the team that will ensure that UK Scouting is able to give even more young people, from a wider range of backgrounds, the opportunity to experience the life changing adventure that Scouting offers. I look forward to working with him at the start of this new and exciting chapter.’
