A Parent's Guide to Scouting

The new and updated version of the parent pack (previously Where Did All That Mud Come From?) is now available. A parent's guide to Scouting is designed to give parents the information they need when their child first joins Scouting, what happens in Scouting and how they can help.

The booklets have been produced to help Leaders engage parents and encourage them to get more involved with Scouting.

Now in a handy size with a pocket at the back for local information available for download, the pack includes a welcome letter to new parents, a family information form, local information details, financial information and uniform diagrams. To download the inserts log in to www.scouts.org.uk using your normal username and password and click on 'Print Centre' in the My Tools menu. When logged in, select Parent Pack from the menu on the left.

You can order the guide in quantities of 25 at a small cost which covers fulfilment, postage and packing.

To order the packs visit Scout Shops or call the Scout Information Centre on 0345 300 1818.

You can also download a printer-friendly version of A Parent's Guide to Scouting to view before you place an order.

Using camps to recruit parents

You don’t need convincing how wonderful Scouting is, and how offering it to more people is a good idea. If you need more adult volunteers, then using camps to involve parents should be an integral part of the recruitment process. 45% of new Section Leaders come from parents of children already in your Group or waiting to join. Involving parents in your camp or residential experience is proven to be the most successful method of recruiting them.  For more information please see Using camps to recruit parents or download the printer-friendly version.
