UK Programme Support Team
If you are holding a Regional, County or Area event and need extra support, we have a team of staff and volunteers who can deliver information and support about Programme-related topics. Our aim is to make sure that all leaders are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver a balanced programme.
How to get someone to your event
Requests must be based on the needs of your Region, County or Area. We cannot commit to attending multiple events in the same area within a short period of time, or to sending several people to one event. Please try to co-ordinate the support that you request so that a number of things can be achieved in one visit. This helps us to distribute our resources fairly.
Supporting local Scouting
We’re able to provide support to Districts, Counties, Regions and Countries by taking an active part in delivering events or participating in meetings. This includes:
- running (on the day) an event that has been identified as a local need
- supporting an event which is running locally – usually helping with a specific session or part
- helping to plan an event or meeting, which is then run by you
- attending a meeting to talk on a particular agenda item or answer questions on a particular topic.
What this means in practice
The following examples are an indication of some of the types of support that staff or volunteers from the UK Programme Support Team may deliver.
- Assisting with a County Beaver Scout development day, running short sessions for Beaver Leaders on Programme planning, global and adventurous activities for Beavers.
- Helping an Assistant County Commissioner to plan a County Programme conference by identifying topics to cover and people to ask for help, but not actually attending on the day.
- Running a workshop to help a District who are setting up the Young Leaders’ Scheme for the first time.
Where we aren’t able to provide support
We don’t usually attend events where we’re not playing an active part. This includes:
- Social events, for example awards presentations
- Instances where someone else could provide better support, for example, the Assistant County Commissioner or the Regional Services Team (Growth and Development Officers).
- We are also unable to provide administrative or financial support for local events. For fundraising help and support please see the fundraising pages www.scouts.org.uk/fundraising
