The Scout Network has been under review for several years. A number of recommendations to improve the Scout Network have been approved for implementation and work is being undertaken on these at the moment.
The future structure and programme will better reflect the needs of 18-25 year olds and the communities in which they live.
Who do the changes affect?
Everyone that is 18-25, people that support this age range,
District and County teams including members who are involved with Explorer
Membership of the section will be expanded to all 18-25 members of the association.
The updated Scout Network programme will focus its
activities around the three programme areas of Adventure, International and
Community. Together with others members, Networkers can develop activities and
projects that are linked to one or more of these themes.
The programme will continue to include top awards; Chief Scout's Diamond Award, Queen's Scout Award, Explorer Belt and the Scout's of the World Award.
Locally Network is changing to a District provision. All
18-25 year olds not already in Scouting or not associating themselves with a
District Scout Network may join the UK Scout Network. To see what the structure
looks like we have created two quick reference guides: for an overview at
District level, click here and for an overview at UK level click here.
A volunteer project team is currently working hard to prepare transition guidance and programme resources as well as a new Scout Network website. There are planed communications for different groups of people depending on your role. (From County Commissioners, District Commissioners, Networkers, 18-25 members not currently in network and people who support this age range). Full details will be shared via email, Scouting Plus, Scouting magazine and on social media over the coming weeks.
Network is moving to a ‘free to join - pay to play’ system. What this means is that for the census capture of 31 January 2015 everything remains the same. The changes to Network start in spring 2015 and all 18-25 year old members will have the Scout Network role on their profile by November 2015. This then gives Districts a chance to make sure that all data is correct in time for the census data capture on 31 January 2016.
