Pulling (Fixed Seat Rowing)

Pulling is a form of rowing where an open boat with fixed seats is used. Along with oars the crew will move the boat through the water.

Who is it suitable for?
Due to the various sizes of boats and oars available this can be an activity for all ages and abilities.

Additional Information
There are plenty of Sea Scout groups with pulling boats and leaders qualified to lead this activity, why not link up to share this activity with your members.
British Rowing have clubs around the UK, some specialising in fixed seat rowing. Find your local club on their website by using the try rowing option.

How to run/provide pulling (fixed seat rowing)

There are 3 ways of running Pulling (Fixed Seat Rowing) in Scouting. These are:

  1. Scout-led activity - running pulling (fixed seat rowing) yourself or using someone else in Scouting

  2. Externally-led activity - running pulling (fixed seat rowing) using an external provider

  3. Activity for adult groups - running pulling (fixed seat rowing) for a group entirely of adults
